Do you ever consider you overall lifestyle when planning your future?

March 20th, 2009
Dusty asked:

Considering my overall lifestyle, I have decided it doesn’t pay to plan for the future. Every time I plan things, something else happens anyways and then somewhere along the line someone is disappointed. I do make “game plans”, but those are subject to change as I ultimately don’t have any control over the future anyways.

Modern Lifestyles

March 19th, 2009

Derek Dashwood asked:

To me, as I am going to hang out on a limb and discuss religion, I must share with you a brief summary on my own biases. I was born to a mother brought up Irish Catholic, who left her religion to marry my English Anglican father. After years sitting and kneeling to pray, we joined the modern modern United Church, which is a more modern welcoming church. When I was engaged, my wife agreed we marry in the United Church, which we then began to attend. I felt I became a dear friend of the pastor, who introduced me as a leader in the community, as I was, and we felt warmly welcomed.

When our daughter was born, the minister asked if we could become the official greeters at the church door, an old habit that had rather fallen out of use. We did, and were there early in our Sunday best attire, all ready at the front door. The first few through the door seemed startled as I shook their hands and welcomed them to the service. Joe, our minister, had an agenda for the songs and sermon, and we would hand that out to each new arrival.

As if we had anything to do with that, but all assumed, it seemed, we had worked worked all week on this. We were all treated as a very Godly threesome, and of course our newborn well loved daughter melted every heart, and the entry hall was a series of started, then smiling people entering into the kingdom of God for a good old fashioned hearty sing a long, and then a very warm touching sermon from Joe.

God could not have succeeded anywhere on earth better than He did for that time. After service, we all felt so good, no one wanted to go home, so we stayed and did good. Usually, service was followed by a tea downstairs later. We would plan and arrange a charity raffle for the poor, or a drop off place for old eyeglasses destined for Africa. The church has a food box near the door. And I found myself, too busy, fending off Joe’s request to join the finance or some other committee as the church needed a new roof, or always something.

And that drive home was one of the most serene times in our marriage, which did not end perfectly. But it held together better than it might by those Godly behaviors we went through. When Joe looked at any one of us from his pulpit, as he did me in my turn, and says how much God loves me, I profoundly felt God come through Joe’s honest eyes and his word into my eyes and heart and soul. When that happens, it matters not whether you are Catholic or Anglican, Islam or Jew, Confucian or Buddhist, it is who is inside you.

If you bomb and you kill and destroy rather than build, unless it is Hitler, you should stop, drop and roll. And look another way. All seem determined to stay their own course. And they each are God’s chosen, they told themselves that. Oh, no it is from God, through the hands of wise men. Oh, yes. The eyes for an eye crowd, of such holy love.

Back to being the greeter at the door. After several years of very enjoyable Sundays at the door, and then the service, and the teas, and the goods we had brought for the charity box, Joe, our kind, wise minister said one Sunday, that as his arthritis had been becoming more painful he had felt he might need to retire to get to a warmer clime. And we felt joy and loss as he said that the church had rewarded him with a small ministry in need of love in Jamaica, amidst heat. They would live out their final years doing third world ministry to those who needed them. God is merciful indeed.

Our new minister arrived, from far away. His first Sunday service was one of our last attendances, as I recall. In contrast of the love of God pouring from the simple mouth of Joe, I was shocked to realize that God had different capabilities with even his own leaders. This service was all about him. And the more he talked of everyone around he had served, about a year in each place, the more I realized why. Each ministry would have a committee that was in charge of hiring and firing their minister, I often refused to join, so I know.

In this new minister’s case, his one year trial ministry often must be ending with a handshake and a ticket out of town. At the end of the service, as we all put on our coats, he approached me, and thanked me for having welcomed in the front door. It had rather startled him, and he wondered who I was to be doing that. He suggested he would take it up with the appropriate committee, but for now he would be the greeter at the door. As the church had filled up during our several years at the door, I feared for my church. But not my faith. Our Sundays continued, but not with such bliss.

For that self centered man had just driven us away. Many would turn on him, I had no doubt. But I have long thought of his self centered concern about his control, rather than the gentle loving eyes of Joe. And since then, I notice, everywhere now, you see people of Allah, or God with hate in their eyes. When people talk of Crusades, or Jihad, or war, they have lost contact with their God, their humanity, all. So although I no longer attend church, I pray and meditate.

And I can look and feel as innerly soft as those smiling monks who wince men with no soul, batter them with clubs, wherever they are. Then you are far, far from God, where ever you are. I love every soldier of America overseas, and our Canadians too: they were given orders, and so I would also likely have obeyed orders, where I in that position. Thank God I am not, nor you yet, or you. But we need to see clearly, these false men of God.

Eye for eye time is over, in the name of God please. I meditate to the God of Peace, while others their Allah, or God, of old testament eyes. And I could not think of a country of followers of Buddha who rise off their prayer mats, invade neighbors, behave like raving bats. I have looked into the eyes of false gods, and the real thing.

The general wisdom of Buddha has now been studied and found to the most long living, healthy, serene way of life, in which good deeds cause one to naturally flow from this imperfect life to Nirvana, bliss or Heaven. His three wise men were there to welcome baby Jesus. Remember? Peace on earth? Buddha had eight steps to bliss, and the University of California researchers found there were eight virtues in common that the most healthy, longest living people who reported most happiness and bliss. These attributes follow, and you might listen for any evidence of this from your local, or faraway, holy man.

These attributes belong to those with kindest eyes at your church. If you can not have St. Peter tick each of these off when it is your turn, serves you right. To be able to count your blessings is the first virtue these people had in common. To do acts of kindness daily was there, as was savor the joys of life, and thank a mentor. To learn to forgive, which is next, I tried another way. I approach a man with whom I had argued decades earlier, that he did not get the contract because I purchased a better product for less.

I said to my old enemy that I wanted to apologize for my part in what happened long ago. Whatever else, I did not want to go to my grave without having asked your forgiveness. He fell all over me with apologies, that, no really, he had been the fool. Now when we pass each other, we wind our windows down, big wave from each, and our eyes twinkle, I knew his do.

Stay close to your friends and family. Take care of your body. A physician said that basically life begins its end when you can no longer get up from the toilet with out help. After that, your muscle decline and general health have you on your way sooner to God than me. Develop strategies to cope with stress and hardship. Whether by a smooth talking deceiver who loots all your cash, or a careless stumble on stairs, and sooner my God.

And if you follow those virtues, and reward them in others, you began to notice: whom you can bless, and who is on their way to hell. We see it in Tibet, and who has the batons. Pretty easy pickings, when all they know is to love.

Jamie

Kenneth G. Dockins asked:

How would you like to be able to lower your cholesterol, lose weight, get fit, prevent cancer, eat more often, and feel great, too?

Forget the fads, hypes, or gimmicks and use sheer Christian power. The Bible says you can do it, and if you’re reading this excerpt, then surely you want to obtain weight loss satisfaction.

Don’t be surprised that what the Christian Bible reveals about reducing body fat and eating right — is the same as what expert fitness instructors, personal trainers, nutrition counselors, and alternative medicinal practitioners will tell you. And, this fact, in itself, may be your clue that simply “getting it done” is your major challenge to overcome.

Okay. With that said, let’s get right down to the business of losing weight.

What is your true, long-term, no-gimmick solution to getting rid of unwanted body fat?

As a Christian, you have an added advantage over millions of other people who wish they could lose weight successfully. Your extra plus is this… you possess the combined knowledge of scripture plus science. You can therefore use scriptural guidelines in combination with proven weight management expertise to bring pounds down to a minimum.

Considering that losing weight can be a superlatively vast and complex matter, allow today to be a simplistic one. In that, just focus on one crucial component that affects your body composition — that is, eating with the lowest possible saturated fat intake.

Everybody knows, Christian and non Christian alike, that exercise and eating are primary weight loss tools. However, with that oh-so-common formula, there can still easily exist one missing link to your fat loss triumph. That would be your emotional, intellectual, or spiritual will power.

An all too common Christian cliche is this one: “The Body Is Willing, But The Flesh Is Weak.” Yes, a very true statement, and not only from a Christian lifestyle perspective. Inclusively, this statement for all people around the world means that in our lives, we all find it difficult to MAKE OURSELVES DO THINGS that can be powerfully beneficial. Makes little sense, logically speaking, yet the body is not about “logic.” The human body is more like a baby who must learn how to be adapt to, and/or be satisfied with whatever he or she is acclimated, exposed to, shown, or taught.

Then, too, notice that a baby has no trouble with BEING ABLE to eat, rather his or her challenge is to learn what food intakes will cause unpleasant reactions afterward. Trial and error would be the baby’s experience, if it were not for the sound, caring advice and guidance of the parent.

In this analogy, parental expertise or supervision provides the child with a great list of foods to choose — and all of these foods already pass the test for beneficial nutrition, stimulative growth factors, and positive long-term health.

If a baby can eat so wisely, why can’t you, as a Christian adult? The answer is, You Can. Although you’re not a baby any more (hopefully:-) it’s time for you to again benefit from the advice, guidance, and supervision of your overseer. And, for the Christian, this is Jesus Christ, whose words on healthy eating and care of the body live on and remain available to you via biblical principle.

Derek Dashwood asked:

Throughout the expansion of people around the earth the movements have generally spread east and west out of Africa, and most have stayed in the wide central middle climate zones between both poles where the science shows that healthy lifestyles are easier if you can grow crops all year. Thus in the west it was that as people migrated to the north from Egypt they found winter storms could happen in Athens or Rome. And thus developed the need for storage for the times when science says if the average temperature falls below 40 F crops will not grow.

And after the times of Alexander the Great, the creation of his majestic port at the mouth of the life giving Nile made possible increasing crops in ever fertile Egypt to soon become the bread basket for Athens and then Rome. And even before Athens back into the far reaches of time, people had been forced southward in Europe and all northern regions of earth, at both poles really. The cave drawings in southern France also show reindeer bones at layers when England was covered in ice.

We have moved north and south several times. And with our human help, it is rather speeding up this time, as the flowing water out of expanding holes in glaciers shows from Greenland and Canada to the Antarctic. Soon the always frozen seas of northern Canada will be open to traffic, the long sought northwest passage which actually is a huge short cut for trade between Europe and Asia. All win with lower costs and quickly delivery in this case. There is that issue about the sea rising, which may create Dutch type cities and the need to adapt to what ever is coming at us.

If New Orleans needs 10 feet high dikes, let us build them. In some areas less precious or historic, maybe we need to move to high ground also. But what is coming is the northward ability of crops, from Changsha Mandarin Oranges and hardy banana trees up in west coast Canada, to grizzly bears mating with polar bears as they reach the Arctic Ocean, where small trees are starting to poke up from the permafrost. And we now have other burning bushes to put out while California crops and vineyard dry out as we find the Sonoran desert moving northward, burning bushes by bush.

Meanwhile Manhattan will sonn grow Mandarin oranges as now in the frost zones of Manchuria. And as grizzly bears have now reached the Arctic Ocean, we in Canada now have a new worry: what do you call a baby bear, still white but with a black mouth, who had a Grizzly for a daddy, and a Polar kind of mom? Change would be good.

Derek Dashwood asked:

As science tells us, if there is any hope of us or our grand children living healthy lifestyles, we need to look at changing realities and do as peoples have done since time immemorial. If every factory in your town is slated to be closed down, vote with your feet if you must, to get to where the future is happening.

If you live in an old industry town and are worried that your job is on the way to China, then hit the books, study, and get north and west, where the resource needs are. As the wisdom and knowledge builds, we know we need to adjust our current ways.

We need to begin to reverse much of our profligate and foolish ways. It creates an unstable economy when America purchases and then borrows from China to buy oil from the unstable middle east. There is a future for you in any technical degree you get, or in skills training, or how to help Grizzly Bears and Polar bears get along as the Grizzly arrives at the Arctic.

All this messy extraction now combines with serious tree planting. Also there is more and more experimental growing of crops farther north than ever before. The future is all being rehearsed and begun as we speak.

There are serious ways you can make a difference. They are mining diamonds up where those bears are creating a new species.

You could do any of those yourself. A reverse pipeline is going to bring oil from dear old Canada next door.

Very luckily for America there is a stable, friendly democracy right next door that has as much oil as Arabia, or Venezuela, which is huge.

Soon a pipeline will be being build from Alberta Canada down past the Hannibal of Mark Twain. The Canadian oil will supply Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and the neighbors around and including Chicago, then reverse the historic Texas supplied oil now almost gone.

So now oil flows south down the Mississippi to the Gulf at New Orleans. Where those Houston refineries will soon receive their oil not from cranky Venezuela but from friendly Canada, and as always then distribute to America. And so whether you get your degree in oil or diamonds, bountiful duties are ahead of you.

Or forestry skills if you have brains to master, there is work to be done out west. And dear lady for you, is a chance to be part of the crew. Make sure you have worked and listened and learned.

And the future is yours, which you will have earned.

Derek Dashwood asked:

Researchers at the University of British Columbia and the University of Alberta have confirmed, based on World Health Organization studies, that from 8,000 to 24,000 new cases of cancer occur in Canada yearly due to pollution. This finding is a shock to Canadians who recycle, bicycle or walk whenever possible. But rampant industrialized waste and a lack still, of stringent enough regulations, are causing misery among those exposed to these toxins.

If this is happening in pristine Canada, how is your national back yard? We all need to be aware of toxins in our own home, under the sink, in the basement or garage. If is has been simmering away for some time, take it away. Recycling depots are now common, but we learn all too common is that those toxic expensive bits are pulled out by hand in Asia, and then the plastic burnt off to salvage the copper wire, that smoke and ash drifting across the Pacific onto Americas forests and into Americas lungs.

By the billions, as you can imagine, and increasing daily. Like the world temperature, merrily skipping upward. Is any one able to measure those skipping upward numbers by the time and let us know when the sea will be up to our ankles? Our knees? When should we open a gondola franchise?

There is hope. And even while additional mineral and oil sands projects go into higher gear, we need to ensure that we become world leaders, not followers, in helping create a greener world. That U.N. World Clock is ticking, showing how the earth average temperature is now 14.1 something to the tenth power.

And it is those farthest numbers to the right that we should be paying more attention: they are merrily skipping upwards as you watch. No up or down movement at any time you watch. Especially, we in the west need to clean up our act, and then help the developers such as China and India with our technology: common reason must prevail.

And if babies are being stillborn in healthy Canada due to pollution, imagine how bad and worse it is getting in so many third world nations, where bribes to officials still allow ecological nightmares.

We all breath the same air and share the ocean wastes. We need to grow up and accept that there is not a potty section in the pool any more. Let us be aware that we need to personally do all we can to green up, but also to encourage our governments, at every level, to get off the pot. Or out of the pool. Or at least clean up after.

Jake Nathan asked:

Our body requires certain vitamins, minerals and other nutritional substances in order to function properly. Lack or deficiency of even one important nutrient can cause a number of health problems, of which some can be very serious and even life threatening. Sometimes, the diet that we eat, however well planned and organised, we are unable to fulfil the body’s requirements of necessary nutrients. In such a case, we can fulfil our body’s requirement of the deficient nutrient by taking Solgar mineral, vitamin and herbal supplements.

The dietary supplements industry is growing by leaps and bounds. The market is flooded with numerous brands that manufacture various supplements for various kinds of deficiencies. But, it is always better to first consult a doctor and find out the root cause of the problem, and then take the supplements as prescribed. Solgar supplements not only improve health, but are also extremely effective, without having any kinds of side effects.

It is important to know that what exactly is a food supplement. Basically Solgar supplements are products that supplement the food that an individual eats. This means that this product has all the important qualities that are found in the food that we eat everyday. You may find separate products for vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other substances.

Solgar supplements are available in the form of tablets, capsules and even in the liquid form like tonics, etc. Vitamin and mineral supplements are basically micronutrients that help in the smooth functioning of all body parts and help in the maintenance of a healthy body. These days herbal supplements are becoming very popular. The main reason behind its popularity is that these herbal supplements are a natural way of treating deficiencies, and are not made up of chemicals that harm in the long run, but from herbs that seldom have side effects.
