i feel like the gay community coming clean on this issue would advance understanding of it for those who’ve chosen to avoid the lifestyle. (including myself)

They can choose to act upon their urges and attractions or not, but they don’t choose to be gay. You can choose the lifestyle but you can’t avoid the feelings.

How many gay people have you met? I’ve met hundreds, thousands, and have yet to find one that admits to a choice.

“Hmmm. Should I be straight, or should I be gay? I think I’ll be gay, that way I can get discriminated against, ostracized from family and community, and denied basic human rights. Yay! Sounds like fun.”

If being gay is a choice, and you are straight, can you get an erection by looking at gay porn if you wanted to?

Try it, and if you can’t choose to be gay yourself, your theory is wrong.

I am a homosexual. I have always been a homosexual. It did not make any kind of choice to be a homosexual. It is the way I am. It is the way I was born.

I think asker is trying to say he is an “ex-gay”.
Being gay isn’t a chosen lifestyle, being gay isn’t even a lifestyle, it’s a sexual orientation.
